The purpose of this project was to design a typeface to reflect the concept of a musical showing at a local Chicago theater. The typeface designed would then be used to create a poster showcasing the musical. This typeface design reflects the production Once on this Island and the Chicago Marriott Theater. Inspiration from the musical and its integral characters, the four gods of the island, were incorporated in the typographical elements. The overall style of the music and dancing inspired the Afro-Caribbean feel of the typeface, as well as elements from the Art Deco movement and Pacific Islander textiles and prints.
